Jamie Bradbury

Jamie Bradbury is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. Born in Toronto in 1981, he works across painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, sound and moving images, exploring how histories, environments and technologies shape perception.

His practice moves between close observation and speculative image-making. The Black Atlantic examines Black maritime histories, archival absence and the possibilities and limits of AI-generated imagery. His Jamaican and Newfoundland family histories inform this engagement with the Atlantic as a space of memory, movement and connection. Traces of Us considers animals within environments transformed by human activity. Pleasure Systems investigates comfort, surveillance and contemporary attention.

Recent exhibitions include ArtEvol 2026: A View from Everywhere at Saatchi Gallery, London, and the group exhibition Reality Check at Michigan State University Museum. His solo exhibition The Black Atlantic was presented at CICA Museum in 2025. Earlier presentations include Arte Fiera Bologna, the Santorini Biennale, AACDD Festival London, Art Toronto and AQUA Miami.

Bradbury holds a BFA in Painting from OCAD University (2006), an MA from Central Saint Martins, London (2010), and a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland (2024). Teaching and collaborative work remain important parts of his practice.

His work has been featured in Canadian Art, Voir and CBC, and he appeared on Star Portraits. Selected collections include the Portrait Gallery of Canada, the ALDO Collection and the collection of Debbie Moore O.B.E.

Twenty Years On: My First Solo Exhibition at Lonsdale Gallery

2006–2026 · A reflection on twenty years of making and exhibiting This year marks twenty years since my first solo exhibition at Lonsdale Gallery in Toronto in 2006. Looking back from my studio in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, that beginning offers a way to consider how a practice develops: through work made, questions returned to and relationships sustained over time. A first solo exhibition places a body of work into public view. Individual pieces begin to speak to one another, and the viewer brings experiences and interpretations that the artist cannot anticipate.
